History of the Television Ministry at FBCFCC
It began on a cold day in January of 1984. The First Baptist Church of St. Charles, Missouri loaded up their television cameras, switcher and sound equipment and set up a portable studio in the auditorium of First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City. After many months of prayer and research, the television ministry committee felt led to start televising our worship services to broaden the evangelism efforts of First Baptist. The service that was taped that Sunday morning was used as our “pilot” tape. We soon entered into a contract with Channel 24 in St. Louis and that service was shown on Sunday night, May 6, 1984. We were given the time slot of midnight on Sunday nights until we could build up our ratings. Shortly after, the 10:30 P.M. slot was available at a higher cost and then we were moved to the 9:30 P.M. slot, where we are currently. We were asked by Channel 24 if we would be interested in extending our coverage to the Lake of the Ozarks, Branson, Joplin and parts of Arkansas. At that time, the church voted to televise on Channel 25 in New Bloomfield (Jefferson City), Missouri at 10:00 P.M.
