  1. In the realm of sin, it is easy to get pulled deeper and deeper into its destruction.

    1. Sin will always take you farther than you want to go, when it goes unconfessed.

        1. One thing leads to another.

          1. David’s passion caused him to stop.

          2. David’s stopping caused him to ponder.

          3. David’s pondering caused him to send.

          4. David’s sending allowed him to lay with Bathsheba.

          5. David’s adultery caused pregnancy.

          6. Bathsheba’s pregnancy caused deception and lies.

          7. Lies and deception turned into murder.

        2. Unconfessed sin clouds the ability to do what is right.

          1. David immediately began to plot on how to fix his situation.

          2. His character of having a heart as God’s turned into a character of deception and lies.

    1. The destruction of sin will always involve hurt to those around you.

        1. Your sin will never just affect you.

        2. David’s sin with Bathsheba affected many.

          1. Joab, as he was pulled into David’s scheme. 11.14-15

          2. The innocent soldiers who fell with Uriah. 11.23-24

          3. Uriah’s family

  1. In the realm of sin, the pain becomes greater and greater.

    1. The pleasure of sin is for but a season.

        1. There is a pleasure involved with sin.

        2. The pleasure of sin is fleeting.

        3. Then comes the conviction and consequences for the sin that is no more pleasurable.

    2. God’s conviction is strong and sure.

        1. David’s world became a world of guarded miserable secrecy – Chuck Swindoll.

        2. Insight into what David went through for what Old Testament scholars say is approximately one year’s time.

Ps 32:3-4 When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. NASU

Ps 51:3 For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. NASU

Ps 51:8 Let the bones which You have broken rejoice. NASU

Ps 51:12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation NASU

Ps 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, NASU

The mill of God grinds slowly, it grinds to powder. Yes, the judgments of God often have heels and travel slowly. But they always have iron hands and crush completely… - R.G. Lee, Payday Someday
